We're not a typical restaurant. We're a family and employee owned and operated coffee company and cafe--so you'll have the opportunity to learn everything from coffee and cocktails to event planning, coffee production, merchandising, wholesale and small business management. Asst. Kitchen Manager - Troy Hill

Pay & Hours

  • $15-$17hr based on experience

  • This position include tips from our general tip pool

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

We’re looking for someone with the drive, passion and leadership skills to help run our dynamic kitchen program headequarted at our Troy Hill location. You’ll have support from our entire team, including Vanessa, one of our founders, who has been at the head of our kitchen program since the day we opened. You’ll help execute our pastry program across 4 dynamic locations across Pittsburgh and focus on our food program dirctly in the heart of Troy Hill.

Kitchen / Pastry

Pay & Hours

  • $12/14hr based on experience

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

This position will include light line cooking (think breakfast sandwiches) and baking pastries which we distribute fresh daily to all of our cafes.

Must have experience cooking, ideally professionally--or at least be a very serious home cook. This position has potential to grow into leadership roles if desired. The main requirement beyond cooking experience and skill is just an extremely positive (and fun) attitude, and desire to work very hard to make the best café food in Pittsburgh. Hours are flexible, and generally fall between 7am and 4pm--so not many super early or super late nights.

Serious inquiries only--specialty coffee and/or bartending experience is a major plus too, as there will be opportunity to expand into those areas in the future as well if its a good fit.

GENERAL BARISTAS

  • $11hr based on experience

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

This job title really isn’t very accurate. We’re a small company, and EVERYONE wears tons of hats. Our baristas, are of course also cashiers. They also stock shelves, do dishes, take photos, invent recipes, make cocktails, haul stuff, create coffee recipes, run events, and solve problems too—though that is still just a fraction of what goes on during a typical shift.  This position starts at $11 an hour plus tips and our list of benefits listed below.

There will also be opportunity in the future to grow beyond this position into general management, marketing, finance--whatever could interest you. We are not a coffee shop, we are a coffee company--and all the functions that exist at larger companies exist at De Fer, albeit on a smaller scale.
