From Panama to PGH

from $10.00

From Panama to PGH is a collaborative coffee with Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens for the opening of Tropical Forest Panama: Bridge to Biodiversity, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to share this coffee from Panama with you!

Our goal is to make this coffee from a legendary coffee growing country as approachable as possible - and support the farmers, exporters, and producers that put in the work to get this coffee from the lush landscapes of Panama to our home in Pittsburgh.

This coffee has soft and delicate acidity that reminds us of baked apple, with heaps of sweetness like brown sugar, and a lingering chocolate note that makes this coffee pair wonderfully with milk and pastries, but can be enjoyed equally black.

$1.50 of each bag sold will also be donated to Phipps to support their mission “to inspire and educate all with the beauty and importance of plants; to advance sustainability and promote human and environmental well-being through action and research; and to celebrate its historic glasshouse”.

Average cost per 8oz cup: $1.19

MORE ABOUT THIS COFFEE

With this lot from Finca Isabel, there is an opportunity to explore the impact of terroir and generations of coffee knowledge passed into the process. Finca Isabel has 500 acres cultivated with coffee, meticulously divided into plots with distinct varieties planted based on landscape and micro-climates, which influence the maturation and ultimate quality of a coffee seed in different ways.

Harvested cherries from Finca Isabel are delivered to Beneficio El Bajareque, which has an experienced team and onsite infrastructure to ensure attention to detail during the post harvest process. This lot is picked with a keen attention to cherry maturation. The ripe cherries are floated to remove less dense and damaged seeds, and then depulped, fermented, washed and mechanically dried.

GROWERS
Finca Isabel

ELEVATION
1,400 - 1,800 meters

VARIETALS

Bourbon, Caturra, Catuai and Typica

PROCESSING
Fully washed and dried in the sun and mechanical driers.

50¢ from the sale of all coffee bags go to Angels’ Place - A Pittsburgh based non-profit that cares for the children of single parents who qualify as low-income. This enables the parent to continue their own education or career, benefiting both generations.

SHIPPING: We ship orders on Tuesdays and Fridays. Order cutoff is 12pm the day PRIOR to the ship day. If you ever feel your coffee is not fresh enough, just let us know and we’ll replace it.

Domestic shipping is free for orders of $50 or more. Otherwise, it is a $7.50 flat rate anywhere in the US. We ship everything via UPS Ground.

NOTES ON GRINDING: If you choose “French Press” grind, expect it to be finer than usual, so you’re guaranteed good extraction. Some ultra fine coffee particles will make it through the screen and create a flavorful, albeit slightly opaque cup. In other words, we choose flavor over aesthetics. If you want to keep your cup looking cleaner, choose a pour over grind.

If you don’t see your preferred grind in the options then simply let us know in the notes section at checkout and we’d be happy to grind it for your favorite brewing method.
