MORE ABOUT THIS COFFEE
Kenyan coffee is known for its intense fruitiness and vibrant acidity that combines into an incredibly clean cup. Although Kenya is in close proximity to Ethiopia (where Arabica coffee originated), coffee was only introduced to Kenya in 1893 by French missionaries and the cultivation quickly spread across the regions. Kirinyaga is in Central Kenya in the central highlands and is home to the highest mountain in Kenya, Mt. Kenya. The soil is rich and volcanic, getting an average of 50 inches of rainfall each year, keeping it’s rivers lush and the area full of wildlife. With the combination of fertile land and the elevation of the mountain, this has turned into a major coffee region with ideal conditions for high-quality coffee, now producing up to 90% of the country’s coffee. Many coffee farmers in Kenya have microlots, owning around ⅛ th to 1/4 th a hectare of land that deliver their fruit-forward beans in cherries to a local factory, one being Kamwangi.
The Kamwangi Factory is in the northeast part of Kirinyaga and has around 985 active farmers who deliver coffee cherries daily to the factory. Each farmer owns approximately 250 coffee trees and many of them grow a variety of crops, so utilizing a central processing space like the Kamwangi Factory is a huge help to the community as the coffees are blended to create more economic growth as a larger scale producer, while still connecting with the individual farms.

SHIPPING: We ship orders Monday - Friday. Order cutoff is 11:59pm to be shipped the NEXT shipping day. If you ever feel your coffee is not fresh enough, just let us know and we’ll replace it.
Domestic shipping is free for orders of $50 or more. Otherwise, it is a $7.50 flat rate anywhere in the US. We ship everything via UPS Ground.
NOTES ON GRINDING: If you choose “French Press” grind, expect it to be finer than usual, so you’re guaranteed good extraction. Some ultra fine coffee particles will make it through the screen and create a flavorful, albeit slightly opaque cup. In other words, we choose flavor over aesthetics. If you want to keep your cup looking cleaner, choose a pour over grind.
If you don’t see your preferred grind in the options then simply let us know in the notes section at checkout and we’d be happy to grind it for your favorite brewing method.
