Masha

from $12.00

This coffee opens with refreshing candied lemon acidity and mellows to a concentrated cola-like sweetness that lingers throughout. Relatively light in body with a slick mouthfeel, Masha finishes clean reminding us of a gently brûléed grapefruit balance of sweet/tartness.

MORE ABOUT THIS COFFEE
Sylvia Achebet founded Masha Coffee from her family farm in Kween District, high in the Mt. Elgon Reserve. After decades as a community nurse—together with her husband, Dr. Alfred—she turned her commitment to local households toward building a platform for growers. In 2024, Sylvia expanded beyond her home site with a new washing station in Sipi Falls—situated at a staggering 2,400 meters—extending her reach across Mt. Elgon’s top coffee areas.

Today Masha sources cherry from her own farm and neighbors, with procurement managed across four collection centers. On Mt. Elgon, where competition is high, credibility and relationships matter as much as price. Quality is overseen by Sylvia’s sister Unice, an agribusiness graduate who completed Q Processing Level 1 training in Mbale in 2024.

Traditoinal washed coffees remain the norm, though honey and anaerobic trials are underway.

PROCESSING
Washed - cherries are sorted, floated, pulped, and fermented dry for 6–8 hours, then submerged for 24–36 hours under shade before final washing and drying. Parchment dries 4–5 days on drainage beds, then 10–12 days on raised beds in the greenhouse with hand-sorting throughout.

50¢ from the sale of all coffee bags go to Angels’ Place - A Pittsburgh based non-profit that cares for the children of single parents who qualify as low-income. This enables the parent to continue their own education or career, benefiting both generations.

SHIPPING: We ship orders Monday - Friday. Order cutoff is 11:59pm to be shipped the NEXT shipping day. If you ever feel your coffee is not fresh enough, just let us know and we’ll replace it.

Domestic shipping is free for orders of $50 or more. Otherwise, it is a $7.50 flat rate anywhere in the US. We ship everything via UPS Ground.

NOTES ON GRINDING: If you choose “French Press” grind, expect it to be finer than usual, so you’re guaranteed good extraction. Some ultra fine coffee particles will make it through the screen and create a flavorful, albeit slightly opaque cup. In other words, we choose flavor over aesthetics. If you want to keep your cup looking cleaner, choose a pour over grind.

If you don’t see your preferred grind in the options then simply let us know in the notes section at checkout and we’d be happy to grind it for your favorite brewing method.
