Passiflora

from $12.00

The perfect daily sipper! We don’t always feel that way about every coffee, sometimes you need to be in the mood for something wild (we’re looking at your co-ferments), but this coffee is round, sweet, syrupy, and perfectly balanced with subtle dried fruit acidity. Perfect for a big morning brew, or an early afternoon pick-me-up, Passiflora is extremely approachable yet complex.

MORE ABOUT THIS COFFEE

El Alto is located in the sub-region of Santa Cruz in Tarrazu at 1800 masl where both Red and Yellow Catuai varietals are being grown. Emmanuel (Santos Lopez’s son) has the big advantage of being an agronomist and has been experimenting in his farm with the different methods he has learned in his studies. He aspires to work as sustainably as possible and to take care of the surrounding environment.

The Lopez family has a  Penagos eco-pulper to process their coffee. They leave all of the mucilage on the parchment when depulping. After that the coffee is sundried in raised beds for approximately 20 days while being moved around / turned about every hour during direct sunlight.

Once the coffee cherries are delivered to the receiving tank at Passiflora wet mill, Emmanuel immediately processes them. He utilizes recycled water to move the cherries through their Penagos Eco-Pulper. After they depulp and remove some of the mucilage, they put the beans on raised beds for a fermentation during 24 hours - this leads to the black honey color.

SHIPPING: We ship orders Monday - Friday. Order cutoff is 11:59pm to be shipped the NEXT shipping day. If you ever feel your coffee is not fresh enough, just let us know and we’ll replace it.

Domestic shipping is free for orders of $50 or more. Otherwise, it is a $7.50 flat rate anywhere in the US. We ship everything via UPS Ground.

NOTES ON GRINDING: If you choose “French Press” grind, expect it to be finer than usual, so you’re guaranteed good extraction. Some ultra fine coffee particles will make it through the screen and create a flavorful, albeit slightly opaque cup. In other words, we choose flavor over aesthetics. If you want to keep your cup looking cleaner, choose a pour over grind.

If you don’t see your preferred grind in the options then simply let us know in the notes section at checkout and we’d be happy to grind it for your favorite brewing method.
