MORE ABOUT THIS COFFEE
From the gorgeous Eastern Highlands in the Asaro district, Peter “Seed” (or “Yayuho” translating to “tree seed” specifically referring to coffee crops in the local language) owns and runs his own coffee farm. These beautiful old-estates have been on the land for almost a century and can be traced to colonial Australian plantings, where our Arabica genetic history begins and some of the original trees still stand. Although the varietals in this coffee are uncertain, Peter and his wife Elizabeth believe their farm has a combination of Mundo Novo and Arusha (K7), but this archive of coffee history possibly contains Typica or even Bourbon.

Papua New Guinea’s coffee industry is mainly contained in the Highlands, where the combination of volcanic soils and consistent rainfall create the perfect environment for a complex yet approachable cup. More than 80% of Papua New Guinea’s coffee are grown and pulped by hand by small shareholders before going to local buyers. Although attempts at farmer organization have been made, it’s difficult due to the hundreds of different languages across the region. The Asaro Valley has generations of history and the town of Goroka is home to the Asaro Mudmen, a cultural tribe centered around masks made of mud, originally as a means to hide features in attacks, but now considered a work of artistic brilliance. In May, Goroka holds the Papua New Guinea Coffee Festival, where the Mudmen perform traditional dances, features coffee tastings, and holds barista competitions.

SHIPPING: We ship orders Monday - Friday. Order cutoff is 11:59pm to be shipped the NEXT shipping day. If you ever feel your coffee is not fresh enough, just let us know and we’ll replace it.

Domestic shipping is free for orders of $50 or more. Otherwise, it is a $7.50 flat rate anywhere in the US. We ship everything via UPS Ground.

NOTES ON GRINDING: If you choose “French Press” grind, expect it to be finer than usual, so you’re guaranteed good extraction. Some ultra fine coffee particles will make it through the screen and create a flavorful, albeit slightly opaque cup. In other words, we choose flavor over aesthetics. If you want to keep your cup looking cleaner, choose a pour over grind.

If you don’t see your preferred grind in the options then simply let us know in the notes section at checkout and we’d be happy to grind it for your favorite brewing method.
